To Corp. Jim Marshall
44th Georgia Vol.
Inf., Co. C.
Winter Quarters
March 1, ‘4
Cousin Jim,
What a Beautiful Day !
One of the picketts from Dunkirk, George Amos, came up here this
morning and I bought a little Canadian horse from him. Pa paid $ 1,000 for him,
he is eight years old.
Brother Fred and I will be setting out to Richmond in just a few
days. then he is off to Charleston.
I am fully determined to join Lt. Col. Mosby, am getting ready to start this
week, about the 4th or 5th of March.
Colonel Bagby, of the Home Guard, has alerted us that the
Yankee cavalry have been thwarted in an attempted raid on Richmond, and we are to be on guard for any
suspicious activities as they try to work their way back through our lines.
I am off to enjoy the day and visit with friends and
family.
Your Cousin, Benjamin Fleet (
soon to be Private Fleet )
